We at the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey were saddened to hear just before Shabbat yesterday, a devastating fire tore through the grand, historic synagogue that has been home to Congregation Poile Zedek, New Brunswick, since the 1920s, and all but one sefer torah were lost in the blaze. Thankfully, the one person who was in the building at the time the fire was detected got out safely and no one was hurt.
The thoughts of the entire Jewish community in the heart of New Jersey go out to all the families connected with the congregation today and from its inception. We are grateful to the fire departments that kept the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings and to all those who continue to assure the safety of the community.
Those who wish to extend a message of support to the families of Congregation Poile Zedek may do so by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
