Remembering 9-11

Today we remember the tragic attacks of September 11, 2001. People across the United States will gather in their homes, synagogues, schools, churches, community centers, and other places to honor the memory of those who lost their lives, and to express their hope for a peaceful future.

The anniversary of 9/11 has become a time of personal reflection and community strengthening. Many will seek comfort from their family, friends, and neighbors, as well as religious and communal institutions.

Our colleagues from UJA-Federation of New York, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the attacks, compiled an extraordinary collection of resources for reflection, remembrance, and prayer. CLICK HERE

Recognizing that every family, individual, and congregation will memorialize the tragedy in its own unique way, these resources were compiled by a panel of Jewish educators with excerpts from Jewish literature, liturgy, religious texts, and songs. All of the materials reflect our experiences as Americans and as Jews.

It is our hope that these materials will enrich people’s experiences and provide comfort to those who seek it.

As a Jewish community in the heart of New Jersey, within view of the 9/11 attacks, and among family, friends, and neighbors who lost loved ones that day, we remember to extend ourselves in gestures of comfort and caring toward all who carry the loss of 9/11 with them.

As a Jewish community preparing to usher in Shabbat and the new year, we pray for peace among peoples and people inside our hearts, today and ever more.
