Righteous Christian, Aristides De Sousa Mendes, was a Portuguese diplomat working in France issuing visas during the war. He was told by Portugal officials that he was not to issue visas to refugees, but he ignored that when he saw the plight of the French people trying to get away from Hitler. He issue 30,000 visas, of which 10,000 were for Jews.

When this was discovered, he was stripped of his title, his job and his home. He had 15 children. A foundation now exists. It took many years and the work of his survivors and his children to bring this to light. A movie "Disobedience" was made about him.

On Erev Yom Hashoah, April 27, we will virtually meet a descendant of one of those he saved and also one of his own descendants.
In the week leading up to this program, we will be able to view the movie "Disobedience."
The program will focus on what Aristides did, what led up to his being stripped of his position, and his history and life. There will be some discussion relating to the movie, but this program is more geared towards Aristides and is not a movie discussion. There will be ample time for questions and answers.
We all have heard of Wallenberg and Schindler. Here is an opportunity to educate ourselves on a righteous Christian who has only in recent years been recognized.
