Who was Saul Bellow?
He was not as prolific as Philip Roth, not monogamous as was Bernard Malamud, and not a celebrity as was Norman Mailer. But Saul Bellow bested his Jewish Pulitzer Prize colleagues by claiming a Nobel Prize for Literature and was called by one eminent literary critic “America's greatest novelist.”
Saul Bellow was the only writer to win the National Book Award three times.
Prof. Jack Needle will discuss the life and works of Bellow at a “Sunday Seminar” on January 27 at 11:15 am at Cong. B'nai Israel, Rumson. All are welcome.
