Join us for this program in a series on the Jews of Central Europe before the Holocaust. This afternoon of song, dance and lecture will highlight Austrian Jewry's role in commerce and industry, as well as the culture and arts of the country. In a lecture presentation by Professor Glenn Dynner, learn the fascinating history - how "Jews permeated Austrian culture, their unbelievable and miraculously fast rise to the pinnacle of power and descent to hell." - Dr. Michael Kesler, to whose loving memory this program is dedicated. The lecture will be followed by a concert under the direction of David Schlossberg, featuring music of the period from Austrian-Jewish composers, such as Kurt Weill, a magnificent choral masterpiece for cantor and choir by Salomon Sulzer, chief cantor of the Stadttempel in Vienna, music sung in Yiddish to the poetry of Chaim Nachmen Bialik, and to the lyrics of Alessandro Stradella, and enjoy Jewish wedding music and dance performances to waltzes choreographed by May Kesler of Keslerdance.
