The Old Bridge Public Library will host a free screening and discussion of the documentary, "Rosenwald" about philanthropist Julius Rosenwald on Sunday, Nov. 4th at 2pm. Chicago businessman Julius Rosenwald rose to head Sears Roebuck and partnered with Booker T. Washington to build nearly 5,400 schools in African American communities in the Jim Crow south in the early 1900s. The son of an immigrant peddler, Rosenwald also built YMCAs and housing for African Americans to address the needs of the Great Northern Migration. He gave away $62 million in his lifetime, but because of his modesty, his philanthropy and social activism are not well known today.
