On March 19th at 3:00 pm, MRT will be hosting "Bearing Witness", a table-top display put together by the New Jersey Social Justice Remembrance Coalition (NJSJRC). The display contains the soil that was collected from the site where the only documented lynching in NJ, of Samuel "Mingo Jack" Johnson, took place in Eatontown in 1886.
Samuel Johnson's story will be narrated by reverend Terrance K. Porter, Pastor of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank. He will be joined by Rabbi Steve Sirbu of Temple Emeth in Teaneck, NJ. Join NJSJRC and MRT in bearing witness to this personal and community tragedy, and to reflect on actions we can take today to end the legacy of racial violence and inequality.
