Meet Susan Leicher, author of Acts of Assumption
In America, we are good at dividing ourselves into tribes – into “insiders” and “outsiders” – based on race, religion, and beliefs. Acts of Assumption is the story of two young women who are outsiders even in their outsider tribes. One is the mathematically-gifted daughter of an Orthodox Jewish family and the other is the street-smart daughter of a neglectful immigrant Latina mother. Their meeting, under unusual circumstances, and their struggles with the cultural bonds of their respective communities, is a vivid story of faith, love, and family.
Ms. Leicher grew up in a Jewish and Latina family in the Bronx which gave her a keen eye for the prejudices, beauty, and spirituality of each culture. She holds two degrees from Harvard and has devoted her work life to social justice causes. Acts of Assumption is her debut novel.
