On December 10, 2019, members of Jewish communities and other concerned citizens throughout New Jersey were shocked as news spread of an attack that day by two assailants on the JC Kosher Supermarket in Jersey City, leaving four innocent victims dead and others injured. The deceased were; Jersey City Police Department, Det. Joseph Seals; JC Kosher Supermarket owner, Mindy Ferencz; JC Kosher Supermarket employee, Douglas Miguel Rodriguez; rabbinical student and store customer, Moshe Deutsch.

The Borough of Highland Park Human Relations Commission (HRC) will hold a community memorial service on Friday, December 10th at 10 am, in the HP Community Center parking lot, to commemorate the victims of the shooting spree in Jersey City. Speakers will include Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, Chabad House at Rutgers University leader Rabbi Mendy Carlebach (a chaplain of the Port Authority who was in Jersey City on December 10, 2019), and Highland Park's Mayor Gayle Brill Mittler.

Community members are invited to join the Human Relations Commission in commemorating this tragic loss of life and blatant attack on a valued institution of Jewish life.
