Congregation Sons of Israel will join World Jewry on Saturday night, October 24, at 7:30pm to mark the 20th yahrzeit of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination by a religious Jew who felt that Jewish Law justified his actions.
The program, which begins with a community Havdalah service, will include a screening of the Israeli documentary “Rabin (1922-1995) – Soldier in the Army of Peace” and an exploration of the convicted murderers’ controversial defense: that the Rabin-led peace process was a serious violation of Halakhah thereby justifying the murder.
Led by Rabbi Robert Pilavin, the evening will explore whether Jewish law and tradition could possibly lead the killer to believe he was justified. An open discussion will follow.
