WALKING TOUR OF JEWISH HARLEM
We will start our day at the Apollo Theater on 125th Street where we will enjoy a guided tour inside this famous landmark! After lunch we’ll meet our tour guide Marty Schneit, who will take us on a walking tour of Jewish Harlem. He will talk about Oscar Hammerstein who was instrumental in creating Harlem as an entertainment district. You’ll see the building where the Blumstein Brothers had a department store. We will visit the site where the Commandment Keepers (Ethiopian Jews) had their headquarters.
We’ll also visit the site where Richard Rodgers spent his childhood years. Additional sites are the apartment building where Sholem Aleichman, Molly Goldberg and Milton Berle lived and Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, which at one time was Temple Israel-the largest synagogue in Harlem. This is sure to be a fun, full day. Don’t miss out. Register early. Questions?
