Local resident and ghetto survivor Henry Meisel will appear at the Old Bridge Public Library on Sun. June 19th at 2pm for a documentary screening and discussion about the Shanghai Ghetto.
The 2002 documentary, Shanghai Ghetto, examines the plight of 20,000 German and Eastern European Jews who were stripped of their possessions and rights in the 1930s and forced to flee to an unlikely destination to avoid persecution from the Nazis. Unprepared for life in a port city in the Far East, thousands spent years attempting to resume their lives. Meisel, who lived for ten years in Shanghai, China, will speak about his experiences. The award-winning film was directed by Dana Janklowicz-Mann and Amir Mann. A question and answer session will follow the discussion and 95 minute screening.
