In the Terezin concentration camp during the Holocaust, one prisoner, celebrated conductor Raphael Schachter, was forced to perform Verdi’s “Requiem,” the Catholic mass for the dead, for Nazi dignitaries and International Red Cross representatives. He was revered by fellow inmates when he interpreted it as a condemnation of the Third Reich. Only In Terezin/Raphael’s Requiem explores the events surrounding this episode of Holocaust history.
This riveting presentation is performed by Harlan Tuckman, a former Marlboro Township and current Monroe Township resident. Tuckman is a well-recognized writer and actor having performed nationally, including on and off-Broadway. He is joined by Judy Spiegel a fellow Marlboro resident, who has partnered with Harlan in many of his presentations. Tuckman and Spiegel are long-time friends, and contributors to Museum programs.
