Dr. Leah Garrett (Monash University, Australia), will discuss her new book How Jewish Authors Reinvented the American War Novel, a finalist for the 2015 National Jewish Book Award. Nearly all bestselling American war novels between 1948 and 1961 were by and about Jewish soldiers. Garrett will show the impact these often ironic, funny, and irreverent works had in reshaping the American public’s ideas about war, the Holocaust, and the role of Jews in postwar life.
