Dinner begins at 6:30 PM, followed by a special presentation at 7:30 PM by Elizabeth Bettina, author of "It Happened in Italy: Untold Stories of How the People of Italy Defied the Horrors of the Holocaust." This visual presentation is the author's amazing journey through the history of Italian intervention during the Holocaust. She tells the little-known story of how thousands of Jews in Italy were saved during World War II through the courageous efforts of neighbor truly helping neighbor. She returns to her grandparents' village of Campagna in the region of Campania, that she would visit every summer as a child, to study the history of that village's internment camp. The author discovered only as an adult that those villagers had a secret: they had defied the Nazi occupiers and protected hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust. Elizabeth Bettina would go on to uncover the fascinating untold stories of Jews throughout Italy during WWII and the many goodhearted Italian people who risked everything to save them. Her moving account emphasizes that acts of kindness and humanity were possible amidst a time of great sadness and horror.
