"Beneath the Helmet: From High School to the Home Front"
Thursday, December 10, 2015, 7:00PM
at
Congregation B’nai Israel, 171 Ridge Rd., Rumson, NJ
Created by Jerusalem U, the documentary features five Israeli high school graduates who, at the age of 18, are drafted into the IDF (Israel Defense Force), and are trained and serve as paratroopers. While on that demanding journey, these young men and women discover the core of who they are and who they want to be. Defending their country, they also become its guardians of peace, equality, and democracy.
Major Josh Zager will introduce the film and answer questions following the screening. A CBI member, Josh was drafted into the IDF in 1993 and served in the 890th Battalion of the Paratroopers as machine gunner. He was selected for squad commander school, promoted to sergeant, and trained new paratroopers with whom he later deployed to operational duty in Lebanon. In 1996 he joined the US Marines, and among the awards he earned are the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy- Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
The program is jointly sponsored by Red Bank Chapter of Hadassah and Congregation B’nai Israel Adult Education Committee.
