On Sunday, September 11, 2016 the Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will host a two-part program presented by Dr. David Brahinsky.  Admission is $18.00 members, $20.00 non-members.

At 1 p.m., Dr. Brahinsky will present a lecture, “Hannah Arendt’s Philosophy of Totalitarianism and the Threat of ISIS.” The great 20th Century Jewish philosopher Hannah Arendt developed a profound understanding of the Nazi and Stalinist regimes, which she called "totalitarianism."  Brahinsky’s talk will explore her life and work, and draws parallels between Arendt’s concept of totalitarianism and the fascism of recent Islamist groups such as ISIS. This can help us to better understand and deal with the current situation in the Middle East.

At 2:30 p.m., the Roosevelt String Band featuring David and Friends will perform a one-hour set of songs, "Against Fascism: Songs that Promote Democracy, Toleration and Peace."

David Brahinsky has a B. A. from Brooklyn College and a Ph.D. from SUNY, Binghamton.  He is a Professor of Philosophy and Comparative Religion at Bucks County Community College as well as a singer, songwriter, storyteller, and music teacher.  Brahinsky is a Roosevelt Arts Project Co-founder and has been the lead singer and guitarist for the String Band for many years.
